Summary
Hyla intermedia was introduced into the Rhone valley, Switzerland. Hybrid populations of Hyla intermedia and the regionally endangered European tree frog (Hyla arborea) have been recorded. The genetic integrity of the local species is endangered.
Habitat Description
"This species is associated with lowland woodland and forest, and is sometimes found in slightly modified habitats. It breeds in small stagnant waters" (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2022).

Justification for EICAT assessment

The hybridisation between the introduced H. intermedia and the endangered H. arborea is common in the impacted region (with the paper claiming that all individuals in the impacted populaton are hybrids; Dufresnes et al. 2015). As such this represents a decline, or potential extinction, of the genetically pure population of the H. arborea. The paper does note, however, that the native population of the endangered H. arborea may be recoved with increased human effort if H. intermedia were to be removed.

Description of impacts
Hybridisation- Hyla intermedia has been reported to hybridize with the endangered European Trea Frog (H. arborea), thereby causing an extripation of the genetically pure population of native H. arborea.
