Justification for EICAT assessment


Competition with the Red Fody (Foudia flavicans) may have caused the decline of the Rodrigues Fody. Other causes for the decline are loss of habitat, cyclones and a severe drought (Lever 2005, BirdLife International 2016).

Description of impacts
The Red Fody hybridizes and competes with native fody species, causing the decline of the Rodrigues Fody. It also feeds on seeds of a native grass species.
