Summary
Originally from eastern parts of the Himalayas, Hedychium coccineum is an herbaceous perennial rhizome that can reach one to two metres in height and be very invasive. On the island of La Réunion, it can become dominant or co-dominant in natural or semi-natural environments with a strong impact on ecosystems. The existence of rhizomes and bulbs makes control particularly difficult.
