Justification for EICAT assessment
The presence of gizzard shad or threadfin shad was associated with decreased total number and biomass of young‐of‐year white crappies, a shift in white crappie size distributions toward larger individuals, and increased mean weight of white crappies in some size‐classes (Guest et al. 1990).

Description of impacts
The Threadfin Shad is a planktivore and impacts other species that rely on planktonic food sources. Its diet overlaps with several native species, like the Delta Smelt whose population is on the decline. The Shad also affects recruitment of other sport fishes, as seen in the White Crappie, and possibly other species soon.
