Justification for EICAT assessment

The Silvereye dispersesthe seed of the exotic plant species Miconia calvescens, which is a shade-tolerant invasive tree that does not require disturbance or deforastation to facilitate invasion and is notable for its ability to invade into high elevation forests where human impacts are minimal. Miconia calvescens has invaded 60-70% of the island of Tahiti. There is no evidence that this has affected the performance of native species (Spotswood et al. 2012).
