Justification for EICAT assessment


Yellow-collared lovebird can displace native Cypsiurus parvus for breeding purposes in Kenya. There is no evidence that this has caused a decline in populations of Cypsiurus parvus (Lever 1994).

Description of impacts
The yellow-collared lovebird competes with native bird species and can displace them for breeding purposes. They also feed on native plant species, hybridizes with another Agapornis species in captivity and is a carrier of parasites and diseases in captivity in the alien range.
