Justification for EICAT assessment

Eurasian Magpies prey on eggs and chicks of native bird species. There is no evidence that this has caused the decline of these species (Lever 2005).
Mechanism(s) of maximum impact
Predation
Countries of most severe impact
Japan
Description of impacts
Predation of eggs and chicks of native species occurs in Japan by the Eurasian magpie. To date the Eurasian magpie has a negligible level of competition with native taxa.
